OUR VEHICLES FOR WOMEN VETERANS & WIDOWS PROGRAM

How does program work?

  • We donate new to late model vehicles to women veterans & widows in desperate need of personal transportation. We purchase the vehicles first, and then we match the vehicle to the recipient.

What is the fundraiser for?

  • Since we purchase the cars first, our goal is to raise funds that cover the retail cost of vehicle plus 15% to 25%. Once we reach that number, we release the car to the donee. We’ll continue to raise money on that effort as well, and we immediately begin the process of vetting another veteran that needs personal transportation.

How do you find recipients?

  • We rely heavily on referrals through word-of-mouth advertising. We are currently building a network of advocates across the country.

What are the qualifications to be a recipient?

  • Female veterans
  • Female veteran spouse / window or dependent
  • Honorable discharge
  • General / medical discharge
  • Does not own a running vehicle
  • Current vehicle unsafe or unreliable
  • Public transportation is not accessible
  • Valid driver’s license
  • No DWIs / DUIs
  • No history of drug or alcohol abuse
  • Car insurance
  • No criminal history
  • We help male veterans in extreme cases

How do validate qualification of the recipient?

  • We use a thorough interview process. The candidate must provide professional and military referrals that are familiar with their financial status and needs. The good thing about veterans is that they have a verifiable background. All aid they receive is based on documented verification letters from doctors, social workers, case workers, patient advocates, and veteran’s support organizations. The candidate has to be an active participant in helping to validate their status. We request documents such as financial aid papers, income verification, reference letters, DD214s, ETS verification, and separation papers.

When do you donate the car?

  • Since we purchase the cars first, our goal is to raise funds that cover the retail cost of vehicle plus 15% to 25%. Once we reach that number, we release the car to the donee. We’ll continue to raise money on that effort as well, and we immediately begin the process of vetting another veteran that needs personal transportation.

What if the recipient can’t afford to pay the taxes and other costs associated with a new car?

  • We pay the tax, title, and registration. Veterans Drive aims to completely eliminate the issue of needed a vehicle and covering the associated costs. That way, the donee can drive away with peace-of-mind.

Are you the only nonprofit that donates new to late model vehicles?

  • Yes!
  • Other car donation programs operate in two ways: they receive old or broken-down vehicles that they fix and donate. Or they take those vehicles and resell them to generate money for their charitable programs.

Is the program nationwide?

  • Yes. We can donate a car to any woman veteran or widow that qualifies no matter where they live. We just purchase the car from one of our dealer partners in the city where the recipient lives.

Where will the winning car be picked up?

  • All vehicles are picked up from our dealer partners’ dealerships.

Will you donate a vehicle every month?

  • Yes. If we can raise enough funds to cover our cost, we will donate multiples vehicle every month.
